This year IAL is excited to donate to the Lexington Special Education Parent Teacher

Association (LexSEPTA) LexSEPTA proudly supports LexSEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory Council), providing parents with opportunities to connect, attend valuable speaker events and workshops, and engage in social gatherings with fellow parents and school officials. As a 501(c)(3) volunteer-run organization, they are dedicated to enhancing the special education experience in our community.

This year, they are excited to introduce their new co-chairs: Sam Catherine Johnston, Fay Chen, and Vaidehi Venkatesan. They are dedicated to raising awareness about Lexington’s SEPAC and the Special Education PTA, strengthening ties with the Lexington Public Schools (LPS) Administration, and advocating for parents. They regularly meet with the Superintendent, Special Education Director, and School Committee representatives to address critical issues like out-of-district placements and universal literacy goals for special education.

Their outreach to local PTOs and ETS coordinators aims to boost membership and community engagement, offering parents valuable information and resources to navigate special education. They also continue to host speaker events and workshops that educate our community and foster community connections, essential for the success of our families.

Donation from Indian Americans of Lexington (IAL) plays a pivotal role in enhancing their programming. In the past, IAL’s support enabled this group to bring in renowned experts like Ned Hallowell, who shared invaluable insights on ADHD and executive function—an event that benefited the entire Lexington community.
