Indian Americans of Lexington (IAL) celebrated its signature event Diwali Festivities in person on October 29th. IAL Diwali Festivities 2023 brought color and joy to the winter landscape on 29th October at the beautiful venue of Lexington High School. The occasion brought to life the Indian Spirit of Diversity, Enthusiasm and Collaboration. This was reflected in the delightful performances by different cultural groups as the venue dazzled with colorful decorations, traditional outfits, various vendors to showcase colorful outfits, jewelry and rangoli art. 

The event brought together the people of Lexington and was attended by more than six hundred and fifty members of the community and VIPs. IAL Diwali celebration has always been a unique platform that brings together the whole Indian community in Lexington and showcases their cultural arts & performances. Beyond the festivities, it also recognizes the efforts of the resident individuals who are giving back to the community with their exemplary community service. An event truly embraced by children and adults alike filled the evening with talent, love, and warmth.

IAL co-sponsored a vigil in response to the mosque shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Ravish Kumar, president of Indian Americans of Lexington (IAL), explained why his group participated. “IAL stands for humanity,” he said. The vigil, he said, “makes a clear statement that this community has a strong sense of diversity and will not be shaken by such events.”

People of South Asian origin accounted for about 5 percent of Lexington’s population in the last census, but now that local election results have been certified, they make up about 10 percent of the local government. "
