The Dream and the Doorway: Civil Rights and the 1965 Immigration AcT
With less than one week to go, we’re excited for The Dream and the Doorway: Civil Rights and the 1965 Immigration Act, which promises to be a lively community event this Saturday in honor of the 60th Anniversary of the Hart-Celler Act—the landmark legislation that opened the door for permanent immigration and helped shape Lexington into the vibrant, multicultural town it is today.
We especially want to highlight our IAL Youth Group and SASA, the South Asian student group at LHS, for all their wonderful work in helping us put this event together. I hope we can all come and support them.
What to Expect:
• An engaging panel of diverse community members sharing stories and insights
• A student-led trivia game organized by our collaborators SASA from LHS with fun questions and prizes from local businesses
• A chance to come together as we celebrate the contributions of AAPI communities and mark this moment as part of the Lex250 activities
Let’s close out AAPI Heritage Month on a high note—with reflection, joy, and community spirit!
